Stranraer Academy - Anti-Bullying Policy
Bullying is an intolerable reality for some of our pupils and at Stranraer Academy we are entirely committed to confronting it and doing our very best to tackle it.
Last year we took part in a comprehensive nation wide survey carried out by 'Ditch the Label' and the results of this survey have given us clear indications of issues that we want to address and will allow us to target our efforts more effectively. The results of this survey will not be available until after the October break but we will endeavour to put them on our Stranraer Academy web page then. We would once again like to direct you to the support groups that we would recommend as sources of support and reliable information: www.respectme.org.uk www.antibullying.net www.stonewallscotland.org.uk www.lgbtyouth.org.uk/ The school anti-bullying policy which is currently under review in conjunction with our journey towards the LGBT youth Charter Bronze award. Anti-Bullying Week 2017
Assembly Presentation
![]() From Monday 27th November until Friday 1st December, Stranraer Academy held it's annual 'Anti-Bullying' week. Senior pupils delivered an assembly to all pupils throughout the week promoting acceptance of and respect for, all pupils. Through the week, we were celebrating diversity and always aiming for an inclusive environment for our young people and staff alike.
This year the message we have tried to convey is the one of the power of the ByStander. The video clip pupils were shown was powerful and blunt with a strong message from Chief of the Australian Army Lieutenant General David Morrison. We can ALL tackle bullying and this year some of our S5 pupils will be trained through the become Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP) Programme - a national, government backed initiative. Through peers led lessons to some of our younger year groups, our Senior MVP ambassadors will deliver presentations that will empower everyone to take a stand. |
Video Message
From the video, the standout message was: "the standard you walk past is the standard you accept".
Please look at this clip - it is a message to every responsible citizen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QaqpoeVgr8U |
